Silent Artillery Damage Allocation Change?

Did I miss it in December's patch notes or has there been a silent change in the application of artillery damage to mechs?
After they increased the damage to 40 per hit we saw quite a rate of head criticals on non humanoid mech chassis i.e. Stalker, Jenner, Catapult mostly because their cockpits can be hit from top.
During the holiday period I noticed that damage through strikes was more applied to legs and did not result into directly opening side torsos or heads.
It seems like they removed the direct hit part of the shell and just let the individual shells "drop through" the mech to apply splash damage from the ground upwards.
If they changed it without telling it would be sad in regards of transparency in balancing and patching.
Or maybe I just missed a post? (a search did not show result)
Any thoughts?

No post about further Artillery changed since the buff.
Also hits seems to be quite random i have seen Battlemaster adn Atlas being taken down by cockpit hit with arty (not common but happens)
Also Artillery seems to impact within an Area so maybe the hits missed and just caught nearby legs into the dmg area. I have survived an arty strike with both legs and 1 arm dmg sligthy despite being in the center of the impact area and others got a hard beating with the impacts even while getting away of it, so it seems mostly a bit of luck on the random hits.

Yeah it seems to happen to the Battlemaster in particular. Its head is frickin' huge. I wont even play Battlemasters, other than a Battlemaster-1S with LRMs, for that reason.

I've been headshotted by arty twice, once in an atlas and once in a blackjack. Two of the smallest cockpit hitboxes in the game, fwiw...

Twice in how many games BP? 2 in 100 or 2 in 20 is a big difference.

Have not been killed by Arty "yet"... I have been maimed extensively however.
Bare in mind, Arty's 40 includes splash damage... So even if you take a hit to your shoulder that percentage of splash damage to your cockpit is more than enough to dispatch ya.

That's a good question, maybe within the space of a couple of weeks. Both times i was at or almost at full health before taking the strike, which made it doubly annoying.

I've been one shotted by arty in a TDR twice in a day, and some other times too. And my mech was still pretty much intact...

I was once headshot twice in one evening while playing my catapult by artillery. I don't play catapults much so I haven't been in it again, but I have not been killed by artillery since then except in a legged jenner by a spider that wasn't able to kill me otherwise.

Honestly I think its primarily because players are becoming more aware of offensive arty and air strikes now. If you are running away from the strike zone but still not quite far enough splash damage will tag your legs more. After the few weeks or so of Arty Meta, people are starting to play smarter. I see it when pugging solo even.

My last few forrays into 12 person team drops was full of art drop after arti drop. My unit is staying out of 12 mans for the time being. Maybe when an interesting unnocial league is teamed with private matches.

Yeah, it's pretty clear when something is this broken as it becomes a race to see who can spam their button faster. Some matches you just never get a chance to drop your own Arty as the global cool down never becomes available lol.
